Best wines for $10 or less

Good wine does not have to be expensive. The key to finding steals at the local wine shop, is to seek out varietals from lesser known wine-making regions. While house-hold names from Italy and France have all but locked up the “luxury” wine market,  regions of Chile, Argentina, South Africa and Australia -to name a few- are quickly gaining reputations for producing some superb wines at hard to beat price points. We have selected five wines that not only taste wonderful, but that accommodate frugality.

Our list of five wines for $10 or less is as follows?

1. RED: Luis Felipe Edwards 2007 Reserva Carmenere, Colchagua Valley, Chile — Dark fruit, good for Cabernet fans.

2. WHITE: Bianchi 2007 “Elsa” Torrontés, Argentina — A distinctive varietal, Torrontés is characterized by intense fruity-floral aromas.

3. SPARKLING: Segura Viudas, Brut RoséAromas of stone fruits, lemon-lime and ripe citrus are crisp and welcoming. The palate follows the nose, offering lemon, lime and orange.

4. ROSE:
Tapeña 2007 Rosé, Spain – Hints of strawberries and sweet cherries make, perfect with cheese & shellfish

5. DESSERT:
Bodegas Marqués de Cáceres, 2007 Medium-Sweet Satinela — Charming bouquet of red berries with a whiff of fragrant flowers in the background.
